Blades flat — open sky
Turned flat, the blades all but disappear and you're sitting under open sky — direct sun, full airflow, the same as being out in the garden.
- Full sun
- Open sky
- Maximum airflow
Every other pergola roof commits to one thing. Insulated gives you shade all year; polycarbonate gives you light all year. A louvred roof is the one that doesn’t ask you to choose — the blades rotate through 90°, so the same space sits open to the sky on a still afternoon and closes into a sealed roof when the weather turns.
The frame is powder-coated aluminium, and the gutter sits on the inside of the beams, running the full perimeter and draining to an outlet at whichever corner suits your stormwater. Closed, it sheds water like a solid roof. Open, it’s a pergola.
Which system suits usually comes down to the size of the area and how often you’d actually change the setting. A manual roof over a courtyard you adjust with the seasons is a different proposition to a motorised roof over your main entertaining area that closes itself the moment it starts raining.
Both are aluminium, both carry a 10-year powder-coat warranty, and both can be built freestanding or fixed to the house.
As with our pergolas, many louvred roofs need council approval — we handle that for you through our approvals specialist.
The blades rotate through 90°. That single fact is the whole product — it's the only roof that doesn't ask you to decide between light and shade before it's built.
Blades flat — open sky
Turned flat, the blades all but disappear and you're sitting under open sky — direct sun, full airflow, the same as being out in the garden.
90° of rotation
You're not choosing between on and off. Angle the blades to cut the western sun while keeping the space bright, or to let hot air escape through the roof while holding shade underneath.
Set the angle to the aspect of your block and the time of day you actually use the space — that's the part a fixed roof can never do.
Sealed and self-draining
Closed, the blades seal against a rubber strip and the roof behaves like a solid one. Rain runs down the blades into a gutter that sits on the inside of the beams and runs the full perimeter.
From there it drops through an 80mm outlet at whichever corner suits your stormwater — so there's no guttering hung off the outside of the frame.
It usually comes down to two things: how big the area is, and how often you'd genuinely change the setting.

A louvred roof lives or dies on what happens when it rains, and on whether it still looks like one clean piece once the electrician has been.
An optional sensor closes the roof by itself the moment it detects rain — which matters most when you're out, or asleep, or the furniture is already wet by the time you notice.
The gutter sits on the inside of the beams and runs the full perimeter, draining to an 80mm outlet at whichever corner suits your stormwater. Nothing is hung off the outside of the frame.
LED downlights run through the frame rather than under it, so the ceiling stays clean and there's no conduit crossing your new roof.
The made-to-measure system is certified by a structural engineer to the Australian wind-load standards and sized to the wind class of your specific site — not to a generic figure.
